Nevada gaming board moves to drop NCPG reference in problem-gambling rule

The Nevada Gaming Control Board approved an initial revision to remove references to the National Council on Problem Gambling from gaming Regulation 5.170(2), replacing them with Nevada-specific problem-gambling resources. The change was part of 12 pages of proposed regulatory updates approved at a Wednesday workshop and will go before the Nevada Gaming Commission on 22 October.

The proposal follows the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling’s decision about two months ago to sever ties with the NCPG over its partnership with prediction market platform Kalshi. In May, Kalshi agreed to a two-year, $2 million investment in an NCPG Financial Trader Health and Safety Initiative, and NCPG made Kalshi its first Platinum-level member. Several state regulators and advocacy groups withdrew from NCPG afterward, including the Nevada council, Michigan Gaming Control Board, Ohio Casino Control Commission, and Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling in Washington. NCPG Executive Director Heather Maurer resigned in late September.

Other proposed revisions would remove the annual limit of two privately sold slot machines under Regulation 14.330(1) and change licence surrender procedures under Regulations 9.010(2)(a)(2) and 9.010(2)(b)(2). NGCB officials discussed retaining oversight and possible annual limits, with no specific number chosen.
